Finding a new job becomes harder as layoffs mount

Finding a new job becomes harder as layoffs mount; unemployment expected to rise further

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The number of laid-off workers who are continuing to draw unemployment checks jumped more than expected to 4.6 million at the end of December and is likely to keep climbing this year -- fresh evidence that people are finding it increasingly difficult to get a new job amid a deepening recession.
The Labor Department's report Thursday also said first-time applications for jobless benefits dropped to 467,000 last week. But economists largely described that decline as a distortion, reflecting the government's difficulty in making seasonal adjustments over the holiday period. Even with the dip, the figure still signaled trouble in the labor market. A year ago, initial claims stood at 330,000.
Persistent economic woes -- housing, credit and financial crises -- along with a flurry of layoffs announcements in the opening days of 2009 all point to another terrible year for jobseekers, economists said.
Job hunter Barbara Slavin of Los Angeles knows that frustration.
"Many of the jobs I applied for I was qualified for and didn't get them," laments Slavin, 67, who was laid off last month as an executive assistant for a local Girl Scouts chapter. "I got a lot of energy. I like to work, and I don't know anybody who can live on Social Security alone."
She has worked a variety of places over the years, including a catering kitchen, a corporate newsletter and a software company.
The government's report showed that the number of people continuing to collect unemployment benefits rose by a sharp 101,000 to 4.6 million for the week ending Dec. 27, the most recent period for which that information is available. It was worse than the 4.5 million level of claims that economists had expected.
That increase left continued claims at the highest since November 1982, when the country was emerging from a deep recession, though the labor force has grown by about half since then. A year ago, this figure stood at nearly 2.7 million. The increase underscored the painful deterioration that has occurred in the jobs market.

"Workers getting laid off are not going to get hired any time soon," said John Silvia, chief economist at Wachovia.

Some economists believe the number of people drawing unemployment benefits could rise as high as 5.5 million this year -- even if a new government stimulus package is enacted.
President-elect Barack Obama called for a bold approach to revive the moribund economy.
"I don't believe it's too late to change course, but it will be if we don't take dramatic action as soon as possible," he said Thursday, the fourth straight day he talked about the economy, the No. 1 concern of most Americans.
"If nothing is done, this recession could linger," Obama warned. "The unemployment rate could reach double digits."
With employers throttling back hiring, the unemployment rate is expected to jump from 6.7 percent in November to 7 percent in December, which would be the highest in 15 1/2 years. The government releases that report Friday.
Obama, who takes over Jan. 20, is championing a massive package of tax cuts and government spending that could total $775 billion over two years. With add-ons by lawmakers, the package could swell to $850 billion, his advisers say.
With jobs disappearing, shoppers held tight to their wallets and pocketbooks at the end of 2008. The Federal Reserve said Thursday that consumers cut back on their borrowing on credit cards, and for such things as auto loans, at an annual rate of $7.94 billion in November, the biggest decline in 65 years of record keeping.

And retailers on Thursday reported dismal sales figures for December. Even Wal-Mart Stores Inc. finally buckled under the pressure of the sinking economy, with its sales rising less than analysts had expected. Among the many retailers that reported steep sales declines were Sears Holdings Corp., which operates Kmart and Sears stores, luxury retailer Saks Inc. and Gap Inc.
Consumers and companies are folding under the forces of the collapsed housing market, a global credit crunch and the worst financial crisis since the 1930s. The recession, which started in December 2007, already is the longest in a quarter-century.

"Only government can break the vicious cycles that are crippling our economy -- where a lack of spending leads to lost jobs, which leads to even less spending," Obama said.
This week alone, drugstore operator Walgreen Co., managed care provider Cigna Corp., aluminum producer Alcoa Inc., data-storage company EMC Corp. and computer products maker Logitech International all announced major layoffs to cope with a recession that has just entered its second year.
Pink slips are piling higher as companies scramble to cut costs even deeper. Electronic unemployment filing systems have crashed in at least three states in recent days due to the crush of Americans seeking jobless benefits.
For all of 2008, employers likely slashed payrolls by more than 2.4 million. That's based on economists' forecasts for a net loss of 550,000 additional jobs in December, as well as the job losses already reported every month last year by the government. Some, however, think the number of jobs cut last month will be higher -- around 600,000 or 700,000. That information also will be out Friday.
If the conservative 2.4 million estimate of net payroll reductions for 2008 proves correct, it would mark the first annual job loss since the previous recession in 2001. It also would be the worst year of job losses since 1945, when employers slashed nearly 2.8 million jobs, though the number of jobs in the U.S. has more than tripled since then.
On a more upbeat note Thursday, rates on 30-year mortgages this week fell to a new record low of 5.01 percent, a dose of good news for prospective home buyers -- if they can manage to get a home loan.

Venezuela inflation topped 30 percent in 2008

Central bank: Inflation in Venezuela reaches 30 percent in 2008

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Venezuela's annual inflation climbed to 30.9 percent last year -- far above the government's target of 19.5 percent, the Central Bank reported Thursday.
Prices continued their upward surge in Venezuela last year even as economic growth slowed to 4.9 percent, down from 8.4 percent in 2007 and the slowest expansion since 2003.
Monthly nationwide inflation rose by 2.6 percent in December, rising from 2.3 percent in November as consumers increased spending during the holiday season, the Central Bank said.
The government hopes to cut inflation by half this year, but analysts say that lofty goal will be difficult to reach if public spending is not drastically reduced. President Hugo Chavez has vowed not to cut heavy spending on social programs that have made him popular among the poor.

"It's unlikely that the government is going to make important spending cuts," said Pavel Gomez, an economist at the IESA business school in Caracas.

Venezuela relies on oil sales to provide nearly half the government's budget and 94 percent of exports. But the drastic falls in oil prices are putting a pinch on Chavez's spending ability.

Some analysts expect Chavez may eventually be forced to devalue the currency, the bolivar, which is now fixed at 2.15 to the dollar. But Gomez believes the government will first try to introduce new taxes.
"If oil prices remain below $45 during all of 2009, the government is going to be thinking about a devaluation at the end of the year," he said.
A devaluation would allow officials to squeeze more bolivars out of each petrodollar, but the measure also would boost what already is the highest inflation rate in Latin America.

Forex trading rules for beginers III

Mistakes are unavoidable, but learn from mistakes and do not repeat it

Mistakes are unavoidable, please do not blame yourself, the important thing is to learn from mistakes, avoid making the similar mistake again, the faster you learn to accept loss and remembers the lesson, the days of profit making will be much more closer. Moreover, must learn to control emotion do not be proud after making profit, also do not feel depress after losing money. During Forex trading, the lesser the emotion, the more clearer you can see the market and make the right decision. Forex traders must face the reality calmly, Forex traders must understand that they will not learn from profit taking but they will only learn from loss. After understanding the reason behind every loss, this means that you are approaching the profit making path, because you had found the correct direction.

Oneself is the biggest enemy
The biggest enemy of a Forex trader is oneself - greedy, irritable, the out of control mood, and so on, is very easy to let you neglect the market trend which causes the wrong trading decision. Do not do trading because of bored or it has been a long time of none trading, there is no specific rule saying that a Forex trader must do how many tradings within a period of time.

Record the trading details
Record all the trading details, whether there is certain news or other reasons that influence you to trade, after the trade record and analyze the result of the profit and loss. If the result of the trading is profitable, this indicates that your analysis is correctly, when such similar situation appear again, your trading records will be helpful for you to rapidly makes the correct trading decision; wherelse the loss trading record will help you from making the same mistake again. Forex traders could not remember the history of every trading, therefore record is helpful in enhancing your Forex trading skill and also to look for mistakes.

Follow the trend, never against the trend
Remember the Forex market ancient general rule: Settle the position when it starts to loss, put as long as possible when it is profit making. Another important rules is do not let loss happen when it is making profit, when there is reverse trend in the market, it is better to make profit during the profit making situation then to settle position at the non-profitable situation.

Do not eagerly enter the Forex market after making loss

During the loss situation, do not eagerly open a new reverse market position in order to recoup from loss, this will only cause the situation to become worse. Only when you have agreed that your anticipation and decision in the past was completely wrong, then only you settle the old position and start a new reverse market position. Do not play with the Forex market through guessing, it is better to loss the opportunity then losing money.

Forex Trading — Opportunities for Individuals

Forex Trading-How Can Individual Investors Benefit?

Indeed large multinational and individual banks and other major financial institutions have dominated FX trading (also known as Forex trading), but there is a paradigm change in the nature and type of investing. According to one estimate, in the new millennium, there are over 6 million online investment accounts, up from 1.5 million in 1997. As a result, start-up firms now compete directly with financial institutions to serve investors in the new technologically driven economy, and the clear winner is the customer. The competition between the brick and mortar institutions and the Internet-based companies has dramatically lowered the costs of investing, and empowered the individual investor to take control of their own investment strategy in Forex trading.

We know Forex trading is direct access trading of currencies. In the past, foreign exchange trading was limited to large banks and institutional traders but recent advancements in technology have allowed small traders to take advantage of the many benefits of Forex trading using online trading platforms to trade. Virtually Forex trading is done 24 hours day and almost 5 ? days of a week. In the recent times, online trading has revolutionized the currency markets by making it accessible to the small and medium sized investor.

The Forex trading is perhaps the largest financial market in the world, with a daily average turnover of approximately $1.5 trillion. Foreign Exchange is the simultaneous buying of one currency and selling of another. The world's currencies are on a floating exchange rate and are always traded in pairs, for example EUR/USD or USD/JPY or USD/INR etc.
In the new millennium, the Forex trading has become accessible for an individual investor or small group of investors. In the current scenario, investors reap many benefits from Forex trading than stock market, e-mini futures and such other trading. Today mostly traders are choosing Forex trading than stock trading because there are approximately 4,500 stocks listed on the New York Stock exchange. Another 3,500 are listed on the NASDAQ. In spot Forex trading, you have 4 major markets, 24 hours a day 5.5 days a week. If you are so inclined, you have approximately 34 second-tier currencies to look at in your spare time. You can concentrate on the major forex and can find your trade. When you are investing in forex you can spend your afternoon on the golf course or with your spouse watching movie or celebrating holidays-in short it is easy and hassle free than stock/future market.

Not only is it an accessible, easy and less capital-intensive business opportunity, but it is much more cost efficient too to invest in the Forex market, in terms of both commissions and transaction fees. Generally, commissions for stock trades range from a low of $7.95-$29.95 per trade with on-line brokers to over $100 per trade with traditional brokers. Opposite to that, typically stock commissions are directly related to the level of service offered by the broker. At the high end, traditional brokers offer full access to research, analyst stock recommendations, etc. In contrast, on-line Forex brokers charge significantly lower commission and transaction fees.

Forex Made Easy for Everyone

Forex made easy is as simple as you would want it to be.

The foreign exchange market is a worldwide market and according to some estimates is almost as big as thirty times the turnover of the US Equity markets. That is some figure to chew on. Forex is the commonly used term for foreign exchange. As a person who wants to invest in the forex market, one should understand the basics of how this currency market operates. Forex can be made easier for beginners to understand it and here's how.

Foreign exchange is the buying and the selling of foreign exchange in pairs of currencies. For example you buy US dollars and sell UK Sterling pounds or you sell German Marks and buy Japanese Yen. Why are currencies bought or sold? The answer is simple; Governments and Companies need foreign exchange for their purchase and payments for various commodities and services. This trade constitutes about 5% of all currency transactions, however the other 95% currency transactions are done for speculation and trade. In fact many companies will buy foreign currency when it is being traded at a lower rate to protect their financial investments.

Another thing about foreign exchange market is that the rates are varying continuously and on daily basis. Therefore investors and financial managers track the forex rates and the forex market it on a daily basis. Those who are involved in the forex trade know that almost 85% of the trading is done in only US Dollar, Japanese Yen, Euro, British Pound, Swiss Franc, Canadian Dollar and Australian Dollar. This is because they are the most liquid of foreign currencies (can be easily bought and sold. In fact the US Dollar is most recognizable foreign currency even in countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam etc). Being a truly 24/7 market, the currency trading markets opens in the financial centers of Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York in that sequence. Investors and speculators alike respond to the ever-changing situations and can buy and sell simultaneously the currencies. In fact many operate in two or more currency market using arbitrage to gain profits (buying in one market and selling in another market or vice versa to take advantage of the prices and book profits). While dealing in forex, one should have a margin account. Quite simply put if you have US$ 1,000 and have a forex margin account which leverages 100:1 then you can buy US$ 100,000 since you only need 1% of the US$100,000 or US$1,000. Therefore it means that with margin account you have US$ 100,000 worth of real purchasing power in your hand. Since the foreign currency market is fluctuating on a continuous basis, one should be able to understand the factors that affect this currency market. This is done through Technical Analysis and Fundamental Analysis. These two tools of trade are used in a variety of other markets such as equity markets, stock markets, mutual funds markets etc.

Technical Analysis refers to reading, summarizing and analyzing data based on the data that is generated by the market. While fundamental Analysis refers to the factors, which influence the market economy, and in turn how it would affect the currency trading. Of course there are other economic and non economic factors which can suddenly affect the trading of the forex markets such as the 9/11 tragedy etc. One needs to have a shrewd acumen and a few number crunching abilities to strike gold in the forex market.

Emerging Currencies and Forex Opportunities

Forex markets are the world's largest markets trading approximately 2 billion dollars daily.

With the United States financial crisis looming large there has been increased interest in the FX opportunities provided by emerging currencies. Emerging currencies include such relatively unknown currencies as the South African Rand, The Hong Kong and Singapore dollar, and currencies from countries with emerging economies in Asia and Latin America.

Since the recent downturn of the United States dollar many Forex traders and investors are turning their attention to emerging currencies and the Forex opportunities they provide. These emerging currencies are available to average investors now that many FX brokers are adding these currencies to their trading platforms. These currencies are the result of emerging economies and are traded like any other major currencies. These currencies are subject to the same factors that drive major currencies such as monetary policy, political considerations and events, and both external and internal conditions.

As a result of these similarities both experienced and novice traders can use the experiences they have gained by trading major currencies. Many of these countries have institutions and policies in place that mirror the policies of more industrialized countries. For example, South Africa has a central bank which determines rate hikes or cuts much like the United States Federal Reserve. In Hong Kong the Monetary Authority focuses on the stability of the Hong Kong Dollar and the banking sector. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority maintains a system where the Hong Kong Dollar is tied to an anchor currency, usually the United States Dollar or the British Pound.

One can see by the above examples that trading in these currencies carries no more risk than trading in the major currencies and provides Forex traders with new and exciting opportunities. Although relatively unknown, these emerging market currency pairs offer new opportunities for both experienced and new traders. Since market conditions are very similar to those of major currency pairs traders can use the knowledge and experience gained to take advantage of Forex opportunities offered by these emerging currency pairs.

The short term losses likely to be suffered by the United States dollar can be easily mitigated by researching these emerging currencies, and taking advantage of the exciting FX opportunities offered.

To find out more about the FX market, you can check out online news services that specialize in political and financial news. Investors may sign up for very specific alerts dealing with the minutest aspect of world economies and how they are expected to affect Forex markets. For those who wish to have control of their Forex trades following world events is essential for making informed decisions. Forex trading requires research, education, discipline, patience, and occasionally nerves of steel.

FX Opportunities Require Education

Many small investors in both Europe and the US are interested in Forex trading but have little or no understanding of how Forex markets work and how to invest.

Before trading Forex, or any other markets for that matter, a thorough education is paramount. Forex education and training are necessities for those potential investors who wish to participate and make money.

There are several ways that investors can educate themselves about Forex markets and opportunities. The internet is the logical place to start and just typing the word "Forex" in a Google search will garner millions of results. Beware of sites that make outlandish claims and offer no useful information. Many Forex sites are blatant advertising sites that offer no real information and should be avoided. There are many legitimate websites that offer thorough Forex training and many of these sites offer demo accounts where potential Forex traders may trade imaginary currencies in real time. These demo accounts allow potential Forex traders to get a feel for the market and how it works.

Local colleges can be a great source for Forex training. Many local colleges offer free adult education courses covering Forex and other markets. Many colleges have courses dealing specifically with Forex and while these may not be free, they are thorough and comprehensive and the cost for such a course is well worth the money. Local libraries provide usually have a finance section with many books dealing with Forex trading. Many of these books are for beginners and are easy for the novice to understand.

Obviously the best education can be had from working one on one with an experienced Forex trader. Forex training from these individuals will be more realistic and will cover all aspects of Forex markets. No matter which educational course is pursued there are two essential topics that need to be addressed.

Obviously the first topic that needs to be covered is learning about Forex markets, how they work, and the conditions and events that affect the Forex markets. As mentioned before a demo account is probably one of the best ways to learn the ins and outs of Forex trading.

The second and very important topic is risk management. Forex markets have risk management devices in place and it is essential that the new Forex trader learn how these work. After all, no one enters the Forex markets with the intention of losing money.

No matter what the potential investor's location there is a wealth of information and educational resources available. Most of these resources are free and careful study can lead to great rewards in the future!

Setting Trading Goals, Laying out Plans, and Achieving:

The essential key to being a successful trader is learning how to set goals,

work with plans, and then of course, achieving your goals. Achieving your goals feels incredible and it gives you an emotional boost and the confidence to set new goals, lay out new plans, and to reach higher successfully. There isn't much predictability in the market, which can make it difficult for some people to know when to stick with a laid out plan to reach their goals or whether their goals can only be met by altering the plan. For those of us who are good at goal setting and planning but poor at flexibility the unpredictable status of the market can be very frustrating.

Methodical and removed approaches to planning your market strategy can be quite beneficial especially when you are trying to achieve a particular goal that isn't happening with your original plan. You aren't investing in your plan. Some of us have to consider planning more of a brainstorm to help keep ourselves detached from the outcome of our plan. We tend to take it personally when we set up a plan and study the markets and understand exactly how we're going to get where we want to go. It can feel like the market has betrayed us when our plan, which "should have worked" fails miserably.

Take a step back when things first start to unfold against the grain and reevaluate the plan. Maybe you saw something there that wasn't. Maybe you saw something there that was there and isn't there anymore. And perhaps you saw something that is there and you just need to be patient. It is not necessary to abandon a plan just because things seem to be a little less productive than expected. In many cases, especially if you picked up on a trade that was on a downward spiral but expected to bounce back, the waiting game can turn out to be profitable. In some cases it won't turn out so well. Your plan and your ability to study the market and a dash of luck will help determine how well it turns out for you.

In order to help keep yourself on track, it is vital that you take the time, regularly to check in on your goals, evaluate and update them, and do so in a way that is specifically tailored to what you want to gain from this experience. The more specific a goal is, the more tailored your actions will be when following up on it. Sure, everyone enters the market with the goal to make money. What kind of money, why, and what do you see yourself doing with it? What are your goals that have nothing to do with money? Do you want to develop enough discipline and a high enough skill level to work half days from your home office within the first five years? Why?

We tend to follow our plans and the roadmap to our goals more vigorously when we know exactly why we are doing something. Profit is nice. Having enough money to be able to spend more time with your family or devote some time to a good cause is a motivating factor that can inspire you to go through the process without specific attachment to any single plan.

When we know why we are trying to accomplish a goal, it is easier to look at a plan and ask ourselves if this plan will really get us where we want to end up faster or will it most likely hold us back? We all have goals. Writing them down in specific and vivid detail helps us uncover the reason we want the goal. These are the two main elements to creating a solid career based on objective decision making and commitment to the final outcome.

What Is Your Rate As A Trader?

The purpose here is to simply raise your awareness,

so that you can take action to improve matters if you find that it would turn things in a more desirable direction. Do NOT be offended - that is not the intent!
So the question today is very simple: As a trader, what is your hourly rate of pay? Have you even taken the time to at least get a rough estimate? It's very simple to calculate:
Take the average number of hours per week that you devote to your trading X 4.33. Now take the average net profit for your last 3 months trading. Divide the profit by the hours worked. This is your hourly pay as a trader. So...

What do you think? Is your rate of pay is substantially below where you want it to be?

If so, then perhaps a change of strategy - in how you approach your trading business - might help that tremendously.
Too many people in business pursuits of all sorts, let alone trading, never bother to take a look to see if they are being properly paid for all their efforts.
Often the trouble is the point of focus - spending time, energy and attention on the wrong things - but not that the current matter isn't worthwhile. It is simply the mental approach to the activity as a whole.

Here are a few examples:

One trader I know in Kansas spends an inordinate amount of time trying to tweak his system because he just KNOWS that he can find a way to beat the markets. He spends almost no time focusing on his organization, emotional control (or the sources of his emotions), so when he goes to trade, his execution is dreadful and he doesn't capitalize on his system efforts.
Another trader in Quebec reads probably 3 books a week, but doesn't apply what he learns from the books. He is making the mistake of thinking that knowledge is the answer in and of itself. Knowledge put into action is power.
In New Zealand, we've got one guy that has run his trading into the ground and is about to ruin his life. He has lost his life savings and has been trading on his credit cards trying to make it all back, sure that he's "this close". And he hasn't even told his wife about it. Nor is he even considering stopping. He just keeps trading away, thinking that staying active is the answer.
Okay that last one is a doosie, but the point is that these people are very busy investing their time but at less than minimum-wage. When these people looked at their hourly pay as a trader, it was a major wake-up call for them.
Most people get into trading to find FREEDOM and a better living, not working for less than their day jobs.
This is but one of the many aspects of trading that is worthwhile to explore and act upon. If your pay as a trader is lower than you'd like, that doesn't mean that it is necessarily bad.
A brand new trader isn't likely to have a high hourly rate. They are still learning the ropes.
For someone that has been trading for more than a year, however, the rate of pay should be at an acceptable level. If it isn't, then perhaps the approach to the business of trading is what needs to be attended to.
As with any true profession, education is critical to success. Make sure that you educate yourself and apply what you learn.

The 4 Elements Of Any Good Trading Market

The foreign exchange market (forex market or fx market) is the world's largest market and consists largely of the forex spot market (spot foreign exchange market) and the currency futures market. Today however the majority of smaller traders tend to confine themselves to trading spot forex.
There are four elements which must be present in any good financial market, whether you are trading in the stock, bond, futures, currency market or any other market. These four elements are liquidity, transparency, low trading costs and market trends.

Liquidity
There are always two sides to a trade, a purchase and a sale, and in its simplest form liquidity refers to the ease with which traders can buy and sell. To be truly liquid traders must also be able to trade in substantial volume without this having any marked effect on prices.
If a market lacks liquidity then traders will often encounter delays in meeting orders to buy, frequently leading to a significant variation between the price when an order is placed and when it is executed. In addition, it may be hard to sell in a market that is not sufficiently liquid.
Fortunately the currency exchange market (especially when trading in major world currencies such as the USD and GBP) is extremely liquid and a huge number of trades are conducted each day on the Forex money market with a trading volume that far exceeds that of other markets.
Transparency
A market is said to possess transparency when traders can access accurate information at all stages of the trading process.
Information is the key to many things in life and the world's various markets are no exception. There are many examples, especially in the world stock markets, of companies and individuals which have run into difficulty because the parties to a trade did not have access to accurate

information.
The foreign currency exchange market is without doubt the world's most transparent market and this is especially true when it comes to pricing.
Low Trading Costs
Markets carry trading costs which inevitably lower a trader's profits or increase his losses. However, when a market can keep its trading costs low it becomes attractive to traders and encourages both an increased number of trades and an greater trading volume.
The absence of commission and other usual trading costs, together with the tight spread of prices, in currency trading mean that trading costs in the Forex market are kept very low.

Basic Technical Analysis

What really works in TA

This part of technical analysis works perfectly. It isn't based on any complicated indicators just on past and current price action. Basic technical analysis include all methods based on drawing trend lines, recognizing sideways trends and breakouts from it. Also major and minor support and resistance levels, gaps, stoploss hunting and all things plainly visible on any price chart. Knowledge and experience in spotting and using them is vital for gaining success on any financial market around.

Trend is your friend
Don't betray your market friends
Most of people when sit before price chart with very strong up trend sells as they see that it won't go any higher. If you traded before you certainly know this course of action but let me ask you - what is the probability that trend will break just when you start to watch it? Most of people when they see situation for a first time would buy but longer they try to trade then they spend more and more time on trying to recognize top of tops or lowest bottom and buy/sell on them. I assure you that entering with trend and getting profit is much easier than spotting highest highs or lowest lows. Best places to enter with trend are of course discounts but this we will cover in one of next articles.

Formations
Price making pictures
Patterns that price movements are forming from time to time have also some importance. This part is rather difficult because patterns are rarely precise. To spot them and use them you need some experience that comes from practice only. Many traders are using chart patterns in market situation assessment both to describe big picture situation and short term decision making.

Which broker to use?

With heavy competition that we observe on today's brokerage services market it's quite easy to pick up best broker for us.

We simply choose broker which gives biggest number of freebies and bonuses like free signals, news, analysis money bonuses etc. Then we look at spreads - it shouldn't be higher that 2-3 pips on major currency pairs. And finally we look for clients base and company assets - bigger than better.
Broker's assets

Richer company safer funds
Most important thing is how funds are kept by brokerage company. It should be kept on separate accounts, not mixed with company's operational capital. If it is kept on one account in case of broker bankruptcy it is difficult to get back deposited money. To save yourself problems choose broker that is big and popular.
GCI Financial Ltd.
For getting started with you demo account we choose GCI financial Ltd - currently in our humble opinion one of the best if not the best broker around. It corresponds to our needs as it has low spreads, gives many bonuses, is regulated and provides wide selection of financial instruments. Currency pairs

Our trading vehicles

Instruments traded on most popular forex spot market are currency pairs. EUR/USD, USD/JPY, GBP/CHF these are our trading vehicles. Currency pair price equals the ratio of one currency valued against another. The first currency in pair is called base currency, the second one is referred as the quote currency. When you want to buy, an currency pair price specifies how much quote currency you have to pay to obtain one lot of the base currency. When you want to sell, the currency pair price specifies how much quote currency you get when selling one lot of the base currency.

ISO Currency Symbols

All currencies are assigned an ISO (International Standards Organization) code abbreviation. US dollar is as you probably noticed referred as USD, GBP is United Kingdom Pound etc. These abbreviations are commonly used to describe currencies in financial world. List of currency codes is placed .
Pip and its value

What we are earning here?

While during trading stocks traders are earning cents or its fractions, when trading futures points are being earned or lost during forex trading we are earning or losing pips. Depending on currency pair pips are second or fourth place after coma. For example exchange rate (or currency pair price) for EUR/USD is as for now 1.2068. If it raise to 1.2075 it will be 7 pips up. USD/JPY price is 118.51, pips here are describing second place after coma. Pips can have different values depending in which currency account is denominated. If account is denominated in USD each pip earned in different currency than USD need to be exchanged to USD.

In example when we trade USD/JPY we are earning or losing JPY pips. To add then to our USD denominated trading account we need to exchange them to USD. We will look then for JPY/USD exchange rate and we will see how much JPY pip is worth. Every trading platform does such calculations automatically but its good to know why on some pairs we are earning more dollars per pip when on others we earn less. On major currency pairs pips value vary from as low as $0.7 to as high as $1.6. These values are of course approximations as they depend on exchange rates which are changing every minute.

about the market

Biggest market around

Word "Forex" comes from shorting up "foreign exchange" and it is used to describe currency spot market mostly but also currency futures and options market. This is the biggest and most fluent global market. It is pretty similar to other markets if it comes to its mechanics but it has way much more volume. This high volume comes from nature of it. All banks are contributing to it together with financial companies, institutions, individual speculators and investors and even import/export companies. Such a high volume guarantees stable spreads during working week and contract execution with relatively small slippages even in aggressive price movements.

OTC Market

No borders, no limits

Forex is over the counter market. It means that there are no agreed centres or exchanges where you need to be connected in order to trade. It is a big world wide network, letting you trade 24 hours per day usually from Monday till Friday. Each trading day starts in Wellington then it travels with sun around the globe. After Wellington there is New Zeland then Sydney, Tokio, Hongkong, Singapur, then Bahrajn and the rest of middle east. Then comes London with the rest of Europe and finally New York and rest of USA. Each and every person can trade this market without any limitations no matter where he or she lives and on what hour chooses to enter trades.

Forex trading hours

Trading week

As most markets Forex is closed during weekends. Trading hours may vary depending on working hours of brokers which usually facilitate trading for individual traders but generally it is from Sunday 6:30PM EST through Friday 4PM EST.

Forex Profits by Buying and Selling at the Same Time

This article is one of a series which looks at the advantages and weaknesses of trading using the hedged, grid trading system to trade volatile markets.

We will look at how money can be made by breaking a number of trading truths or principles; cut your losses and let your profit run and there is nothing to gained by entering into buy and sell deals at the same time.

The hedged grid trading system uses the principle that one should be able to cash in at a gain no matter which way the market moves. No stops are therefore required at all. The only way this is logically possible is that one would have a buy and sell active at the same time. Most traders will say that that is trading suicide but let's take some to look at this more closely.
Let's say that a trader enters the market with a buy and sell active when a currency is at a level of say 100. The price then moves to 200. The buy will then be positive by 100 and the sell will be negative by 100. At this point we start breaking trading rules. We cash in our positive buy and the gain of 100 goes to our account. The sell is now carrying a loss of -100.
The grid system requires one to make sure that cash in on any movement in the market. To do this one would again enter into a buy and a sell transaction. Now, for convenience, let's assume that the price moves back to level 100.

The second sell has now gone positive by 100 and the second buy is carrying a loss of -100. According to the rules one would cash the sell in and another 100 will be added to your account. That brings the total cashed in at this point to 200.
Now the first sell that remained active has moved from level 200 where it was -100 to level 100 where it is now breaking even.

The 4 transactions added together now magically show a gain:-

1st buy cashed in +100, 2nd sell cashed in +100, 1st sell now breaking even and the 2nd buy is -100. This gives an overall a gain of 100 in total. We can liquidate all the transactions and have some champagne.
There are many, many other market movements that turn this strange "buy and sell at the same time" activity into gains. These will be covered in future articles and are covered in a free grid trading course which is available at the expert-4x.com website for those traders whose curiosity has been aroused.
